Sri Lanka: workaway at Ishanka & Anna’s
Like I said in my previous article, while we were trying one more time to buy train tickets (you need to book in advance, or so it seems), two people canceled their booking one morning, so we bought theirs! How lucky is that? How and how much? To do this trip, you’ll need to go to the official website Sri Lanka Railways but only to check as you cannot buy on the website itself. So you will need to go to the station however PLAN AHEAD. For your information, the trip between Kandy and Ella lasts for 7 hours, yet honestly, time flies so fast aboard this train. As of 2022, the ticket costs 270 LKR (or…
Sri Lanka: our tuk-tuk roadtrip!
If the best way to visit Vietnam is by bike without any doubt, in Sri Lanka, the best way is by tuk-tuk! But there must be some people who may be wondering “but what is a tuk-tuk?”. They are three wheels vehicles. The first time we hear about the possibility of renting a tuk-tuk is from Ishanka, where we did a workaway. I joined the link to the article about the workaway experience. Like I said in that article, at first we were thinking it was going to be too expensive and just sounded too strange. But as time passed by and the more we were reading, it became more and more appealing. If you…
Northern Vietnam: Ha Giang Loop
While it was not obvious for me for the beginning of our trip in Vietnam, now I understand all the hype around that country. The landscapes are of a rare beauty that makes me succumb to its charms as well. My words are not enough to explain how marvellous it is, but I will try to narrate the five days Samuel, Aurélie and I lived on our motorbikes. My sole regret is that my dad with whom I was supposed to explore this area with couldn’t come at the last minute…Only to be postponed! Taken by Aurélie, you’ll find her blog by clicking on the picture On the French radio In the summer of 2020,…
Philippines: Cebu, Palawan & Manila
Unlike Bali, I will not write an article on how to prepare for a trip to the Philippines because I don’t have as many things to say. Maybe because we didn’t plan anything at all (and that was a mistake). We actually didn’t do much there even though we stayed for about three weeks. Philippines requires much more logistics, therefore planning ahead is a good idea. However that’s not something we are used to anymore. On top of that, I’ve been sick for half of the trip. That’s why I will write everything within the same article and let’s see how it goes. We only visited three islands, among some of the 7,641 islands Philippines has:…
Let’s talk more about WWOOFing!
The first time I WWOOFed was when I left to Japan and Korea for three months. Alright, but what is WWOOFing actually? Yeah, what is that?! Why two ‘w’ in a word? Because it’s an acronym, which stands for “World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms”, which began in the UK some 50 years ago (1971). The name changed numerous times, and for a good reason to my opinion. The first version was ‘Willing Workers on Organic Farms’… Something sounds a bit fishy, I think. Anyway, WWOOFing is mostly to work in farms (among other things, like hotels, animal station, shops, restaurants, animal rescue center but I suppose we can find mostly farm jobs) and in…
Happy New Year 2021!
What can we wish for next year? Hope for a better one, not as ‘heavy’ as 2020. Which is not hard, to be honest! The situation I think has been very detrimental to many of us, even if maybe some people could make some project, it’s been pretty empty over here. I wish you all the best. I also want to show a sign of life. I am trying to keep writing and editing videos while working but I am still on it, fully! Autumn colours in France Anyway, best wishes to everyone, stay all safe! See you soon, guys.
A story of mine on the French national radio?
The story I still travel with.. For those who know me very well know that I am pretty much obsessed with the French radio ‘France Inter‘. When I come back to a more sedentary life, back to the post office, that radio follows me everyday. For the summer, Elodie Font was hosting a radio podcast called ‘Chacun sa route‘ about any kind of travel (spiritual, ecological etc.), which I was listening happily every day. If there is a thing I want to share, for sure my trips are one of them (isn’t that blog a proof?). So I sent an email to Elodie. She quickly replied and we organised a small audio story. The pitch was…
Vietnam
The next destination won’t disappoint. That’s plainly impossible, according to the fellow backpackers I meet alongside the road, particularly around South East Asia. And to be honest, it did not disappoint, indeed. One question I often get asked is ‘what’s your favourite country?’. I mean, I’ve only been to Asia and Australia so far (and some countries in Europe), so my spectrum is not so wide. While I don’t really like this question myself and don’t ask it, people will say it anyway. Vietnam is most often the incontestable winner on all grounds, whether food or landscapes (maybe not so much people, but that is apparently not so important for the people I meet). Even…
Somewhere between Bali & Lombok
I’ve been wasting some time (I don’t really consider it a waste, but the writing process was on pause) to enhance my blog, like creating a logo based on one of my former drawings, “commissioned” by the guesthouse Aurélie and I worked at in Sapporo (I haven’t been paid, fortunately, regarding to the quality of it — I didn’t translate the article yet, but for whoever is interested in seeing the pictures I still linked the article), modified on the application Photoshop Express. I also used that software for the banners (fonts included). Which means that I should better hurry, I’m in Thailand, I’m still four countries behind. Why do I keep being off topic?
Bali
Now that we are ready to go, and that you’re aware about the biggest scam I know (granted, I don’t know much obviously about Indonesia), I can finally write about the trip itself! Let me tell you that it’s much more enjoyable. I will divide the trip in 3 sections, the one I did already about Mount Batur, this one about the main island of Bali and lastly one about the paradisiac islands. We land in Denpasar where we only spend one day. I gotta say that for a big city, since there’s plants everywhere, it looks prettier. Also the architecture is interesting. I mean, it is still ugly, but in a pretty way if…
